Kurt Volker, the U.S. former Special Representative for Ukraine thinks one of the reasons for the August War 2008 is Mikheil Saakashvili’s rhetoric towards Vladimir Putin.
“Saakashvili had done a lot for his country, including sweeping reforms. He effectively developed relations with the US and the West. However, Putin was extremely nervous about Saakashvili’s harsh rhetoric. I think this resulted in August War 2008.
The current Georgian government chose different rhetoric towards Russia, but that does not mean the government forgot Russian aggression or occupation”, - said Volker in the interview with European Pravda.
The U.S. former Special Representative for Ukraine cited Georgia’s example while talking about the minimization of Russia’s aggression and its resistance tactics.
