50-years-old man detained in Zugdidi for attempted assault on policeman

Police detained in Samegrelo a person for an attempted assault on a police officer and illegal purchase and storage of firearms. The detainee has a prior criminal record. Perpetrators of similar crimes receive a jail sentence between 3 and 20 years.

According to MIA, on 17 January 2020, the defendant, G.K., opened fire at a law enforcer on Chavchavadze Street and fled the crime scene. The offender was reportedly detained in Tsalenjikha Municipality.

The police retrieved a firearm as evidence. The investigation is underway.
