MIA - Georgian citizen takes Georgian border guard hostage on unagreed section of Georgian-Azerbaijani border

The officers of the Border Police of the MIA detained a citizen of Georgia on charges of unlawful purchase, keep and possession of firearms and hostage-taking.

According to the statement of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, on January 14, citizen of Georgia G.I. threatened the Georgian border guard by using firearms and a hand grenade and forced him to move to the unagreed section of the border.

Ministry said the incident is now completely over.

An investigation has been launched under provisions III and IV, Article 236 and sub-provision I, provision II, Article 144 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.

The MIA thanked its Azerbaijani counterparts for effective cooperation in connection with this incident.
