During the second week of January seasonal flu infection level increases in Georgia - Amiran Gamkrelidze

According to Amiran Gamkrelidze, the Director of the Center for Disease Control in the second week of January, people asking for consultations and cases of hospitalization increased.

“The flu season lasts until late March or mid-April. We should pay attention to all the recommendations made by the Center for Disease Control to prevent having a flue.

96 900 people are currently vaccinated against the flu, and the country still has sufficient supplies of vaccine”, - said Amiran Gamkrelidze.

The number of patients treated in the hospitals with severe respiratory infections has increased from 22 to 25,3%.

The Georgian Health Ministry announced that pregnant women and members of vulnerable groups will receive the antiviral medication Tamiflu free of charge with a doctor’s prescription.
Gamkrelidze said that the best method of protection is vaccination.
