Archbishop Andrea Jaghmaidze, the Head of the press-center of the Patriarchate of Georgia, commented on the decision of Salome Zourabichvili.

As he said during the special briefing, the release of Archbishop Giorgi Mamaladze would be acceptable and desirable for Patriarchate at least because it could put an end to the performance that is underway against the church in recent period.

“The situation of Giorgi Mamaladze was followed by huge speculations and many people took advantage of this to use it against the Church.

First of all, it should be mentioned that the decision of sending the motion was made by the Holy Synod on the initiative of His Holiness. The letter sent by the Holy Synod to the President is of higher legitimacy is very important to the church and it expresses the will of the church. The President made public her decision today and explained why Archbishop was not pardoned.

We see it clearly and we would like to reiterate that this factor, the state of Archbishop Giorgi Mamaladze, has led to huge speculations, and in our opinion, many people have taken advantage of it to use it against the Church.

In our view, this person is even a hostage to people who gained their own dividends”, - concluded Andrea Jaghmaidze.
