Census 2024 will be proceeded to December 31

The deadline for the completing the fieldwork under the 2024 Population and Agricultural Census has been extended until the end of the year. The data collection through both, the door-to-door and self-registration methods will continue until December 31.

For the first time, the Population and Agricultural Census started using the self-registration method this year. This new form of registration was used only in the first stage of the census (November 14-28). In the 2nd stage, the data collection was proceeded through door-to-door, face-to-face interviews using tablets.

During the census, due to various circumstances certain part of the citizens living in Tbilisi, didn’t open the door to Geostat representative (an interviewer) visiting their homes for the census. This significantly delayed and prolonged the process. In recent days, the heavy rainfall and adverse meteorological conditions also hindered the data collection process in some regions. Practice has shown that the self-registration method proved to be more convenient for many individuals.

Therefore, in response to citizens’ requests and based on international recommendations, Geostat has decided to reopen the Census self-registration portal from December 20, allowing the citizens to independently fill out the electronic questionnaire. In this case, there will no longer be a need to receive a Geostat interviewer at home.

In order to participate, any citizen can visit the census website: https://census2024.geostat.ge/ka, complete a simple registration and fill out the census questionnaire electronically. After submitting the questionnaire, the citizens will receive the code via short text message as the verification of their participation in the census.

According to the recommendations of the UN Economic Commission for Europe, it is essential to conduct the Census in Georgia by the end of 2024. This is also outlined by the Action Plan of the Association Agreement with the EU for 2024.

The census is a large-scale statistical survey, conducted by more than 12,000 permanent and temporary employees of Geostat. Among them are experienced specialists who have participated in previous censuses. Out of the interviewers are also students, motivated young people with outstanding skills who are at the beginning of their professional careers. Geostat has been working continuously for more than 5 months to select and train them.

In accordance with the legislation in force in the country, the data collected as part of the population census are strictly confidential, will not be disclosed on an individual basis and will be used only for statistical purposes. The participation of every citizen in the census is important. The preliminary results of the census will be published in June 2025.
