The Mayor of Tbilisi said everyone would “soon” be convinced that the “pragmatic policy” pursued by the Georgian Government was primarily driven by the country’s interests.
“Some may be upset with us, but everyone will soon be convinced that the pragmatic policy we are pursuing is based primarily on the interests of our country. Our top priority is to protect the interests of our country and our people.
Global processes are unfolding, while many things would change, the key priority is maintaining peace and stability in Georgia, ensuring the country’s continued development and progress.
We are doing everything to accelerate these processes. Any success we have achieved on this [EU integration] path is the merit of the Georgian Dream. All progress on the path of European integration has taken place under our Government, but blackmail, constant threats, insults, demands to open a second front and join anti-Russian sanctions - these are issues that are directly harmful to our country and citizens, and we will not allow this under any circumstances.
We will not do anything that we know in advance will be destructive to our country, even if others may benefit from it and use it for their own gain. We do not want to give anyone the opportunity to use Georgia for the benefit of another country’s interests. We only want friendship and partnership, and the deepening of relations.
Of course, the current relationship with the West, including the US, is not ideal. The Georgian Government has repeatedly clarified that we are ready to improve these relations, to reboot the existing ties, because the current situation is not good for anyone. We are ready for healthy relationships, and the main thing is that they should be mutual”, - said Kakha Kaladze.
