Special Investigation Service exposed a person to the fact of unauthorised eavesdropping

The Special Investigation Service exposed one person to the fact of covert eavesdropping.

The investigation established that between the period of April and July 2024, in Tbilisi, an accused male, born in 1991, due to a disagreement with his wife, to control her, connected a hidden eavesdropping device in the form of a phone charger to a power source in the living room of his house. Through this device, the accused periodically viewed the secretly recorded footage from his mobile phone and stored it on his computer. In addition, the accused secretly installed an audio recording device in the bedroom ceiling and stored the recordings on a memory card.

After receiving the report of a female victim, born in 1990, the Special Investigation Service carried out prompt investigative activities and hidden eavesdropping devices with memory cards were seized. As a result of a search of the accused male’s private home, his computer equipment was seized and audio/video material recorded by hidden equipment was seen.

Based on the evidence obtained by the Special Investigation Service, the male was charged with violating the secrecy of private communication under Article 158 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.

The crime shall be punished by imprisonment for up to 4 years. The Special Investigation Service continues to investigate the case.
