The Prime Minister of Georgia participated in a roundtable discussion on Energy: Advancing Climate Mitigation Action within the framework of the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku.

In his speech, Irakli Kobakhidze emphasized the steps Georgia is taking to address the challenges posed by climate change.

He noted that the country is expanding the use of renewable energy sources, improving energy efficiency and implementing legislative reforms and investments in green technologies in line with global climate change mitigation goals.

The Head of Government of Georgia also highlighted the significance of the Renewable Energy Law in Georgia, which aims to strengthen the renewable energy sector.

In his speech, the Prime Minister also pointed out the importance of the submarine electricity and optic-fiber cables in the Black Sea, which will facilitate enhanced connectivity and the transmission of renewable energy from the South Caucasus countries to the European Union, reduce dependence on a single supplier and ensure the diversification of the energy portfolio.

According to Irakli Kobakhidze, in line with the national action plan, the Georgian government will continue to take steps that will result in 27.4% of the country"s total electricity generation being sourced from renewable energy, reducing carbon emissions and significantly improving energy efficiency.
