The Special Coordinator and leader of the OSCE short-term observer mission in Georgia, assessed the recent parliamentary elections and thanked the Georgian Government for its cooperation in the process.
As Pascal Allizard noted, the elections had been “well” administered, and further pointed out that “it should be noted that voters were educated and informed about the use of new technologies quite actively”.
“I would like to express my sincere hope that the leadership elected yesterday will effectively deal with the main challenges facing this country and hopefully bring Georgia closer to the goals of joining the European Union. I also want to thank the Georgian authorities for their cooperation during this mission and also extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Georgian people.
Although polarisation remains a significant issue on the political scene, we observed throughout the mission that voters had a diverse range of choices, as there were a variety of political voices. The media environment accurately reflected this deep polarisation”, - said the Special Coordinator.
