Today, we celebrate the start of the construction of the Anaklia deep-water port, a project of the greatest strategic importance for our country, said the Prime Minister of Georgia in his speech at the start of the design and construction of the water infrastructure of the Anaklia deep-water port.
“The Belgian company Jan De Nul, the winner of the tender for the design and construction of the port’s water infrastructure, has already started work on September 16, according to the plan. In the first stage, it is planned to deepen the seabed of the port’s water area, and as a result of intensive work, we have already made significant progress.
It is important that a company with great experience and high international reputation will be involved in the construction of such a strategic project for the country. “Jan De Nul” specializes in marine construction works. It should be noted that the company has fully or partially implemented such projects as - the Panama Canal expansion project, the new Suez Canal in Egypt, the new seaport in Nador (Morocco), the Hamburg port deepening project, the Dubai artificial island and beach.
You will agree that this list already speaks of the exceptional experience of this company and we are happy with the involvement of this company in the development of Anaklia deep water port. In the first phase of the project, directly during the construction process, about 500 people will be employed on construction and logistics works. The capacity of the first phase of the port will be 600 000 containers per year.
The indicative investment value is USD 600 million. As for the process of selecting a private partner for the port project, at this stage the details of the submitted proposal are being clarified with the Chinese-Singaporean consortium, after which the partnership agreement and the concession agreement will be signed in the near future”, - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
