Person who threw “Molotov cocktails” at the policemen is hugged, and the policeman who protected the society is sanctioned, this is not the approach that a strategic partner should show – Papuashvili

The person who threw “Molotov cocktails” at the policemen is hugged, and the policeman who protected the society is sanctioned, this is not the approach that a strategic partner should show. Such a statement made today the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament.

Shalva Papuashvili’s comment followed after the Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control on Monday sanctioned two Georgian law enforcement officials, namely Zviad Kharazishvili, the Director of Special Tasks Department of the Interior Ministry and Mileri Lagazauri, the Deputy Director of Special Tasks Department of the Interior Ministry, for allegedly “brutal” crackdowns on peaceful protestors and political opponents.

“We have said many times that in order to reboot relations, one needs honesty and integrity in the relationship. It is important to stop false accusations and narratives against the Georgian people and their Government.

It is impossible to continue like this, where on the one hand we are doing everything for the partnership, and in response we receive false accusations against our police officers and we are not even considered worthy to provide evidence of anything”, - said the Speaker of legislature.
