Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze met with US Ambassador Robin Dunnigan

At the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed his personal respect for the Ambassador and voiced a concern over yesterday’s decision of the US Department of State on imposing sanctions and visa restrictions against Georgian citizens, including police officers.

It was noted that, with this decision, the American side drew closer to critical limits, and that, should another decision of this kind be made, may call for essentially reconsidering Georgia’s position on Georgian-US relations.

It was noted that the decision made on behalf of the US Department of State seeks to improve the opposition’s chances in the upcoming elections, though it is absolutely counterproductive, because in reality it will not have any impact on the opposition’s election outcomes, nor will it intimidate the ruling team.

According to the Prime Minister, on the contrary, the ruling team is convinced that the decision made on behalf of the US Department of State will further cement the public’s motivation to take a strong stance and stand guard over Georgia’s independence and sovereignty on October 26.
