Haitian passenger destroys American Airlines counter in Chile after learning he was scammed with fake ticket

A would-be passenger was arrested at an airport in Chile after taking a hammer to equipment an American Airlines check-in counter, authorities said, writes Daily Mail.

“The man flew into a destructive rage at Santiago International Airport on Tuesday after reportedly learning he had been scammed and sold a fake airplane ticket to Miami, where he was planning to fly on his way to Haiti. Police said that after arguing with airline staff, he took a hammer out of his backpack and began smashing items at the counter.

Videos showed the man striking multiple computers and mounted screens as witnesses looked on in shock. The man then walked over to a luggage trolley and began to wheel it away before a woman approached to confront the attacker.

He was placed under arrest and was scheduled to appear before a judge on Wednesday.

Authorities estimate that the man caused at least 20 million Chilean pesos, or about USD 22,000, in damages to the 5 computers and 5 screens”.
