Turning on a stopwatch is not the approach that will lead the Government or the country to the result. Such a statement made today MP from Lelo, Ana Natsvillishvili, while responding to the Government’s call to the opposition to present candidates acceptable to them for the membership of the High Council of Justice.

“The opposition put this issue on the agenda two years ago. We started demanding that the Parliament elect 5 non-judge members, without whom the Justice Council today lacks constitutional legitimacy. After the opposition"s request, a formal process on this issue was started in the Parliament of Georgia.

We have constantly stated that our task and willingness was to have honest and competent people in the Council of Justice who would be defenders of the public interests. The opposition is ready to support the election of such people in the Parliament, if the Government understands that the election of such competent and honest people to the Council is a necessary task for the state and justice.

As for the issue of ultimatums, deadlines and stopwatches, this is not an approach that is likely to produce results. We don’t talk about turning on the stopwatch and ultimatums, and neither should the Government. The Government had been obstructing, but after the activity of the opposition, this process was opened. Then, at the end of last year, the Government made a sly attempt to close the issue and drag the opposition into it. We used procedural possibilities so that the issue was not taken off the table. After this process has been delayed for the last 5 months, turning on the 24-hour stopwatch is not the approach that will bring the Government, this country, to the result”, - said Ana Natsvilishvili.
