Taxi Reform - category “A” taxis allowed driving in bus lanes

Category “A” taxis will be allowed to drive in the bus lane. Such a statement made today the Mayor of Tbilisi.

“A number of concrete steps have been taken as part of the “Taxi Reform”. We have one more piece of news, which will apply only to Category A cabs that are less than 10 years old. As of June 1, these vehicles will be allowed to drive in the bus lane. Until now, they could pick up or drop off a passenger in that lane. For this purpose, we are actively cooperating with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and I thank Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri and the agency for that once again.

In order to make such facilities easily identifiable, including to passengers, we have introduced so-called stickers, which we will start distributing at municipal service centers in May. This so-called sticker will indicate that the taxi is allowed into the bus lane.

Therefore, its travel time will be much shorter. This “sticker” will be placed on the windshield of the cab, in the upper right corner. Category A taxis will only be allowed in the bus lane, where public transport moves in the direction of other vehicles, not in the opposite direction. This is an important detail”, - said Kakha Kaladze.
