In January-March 2023 the external merchandise trade (excluding non-declared trade) of Georgia amounted to USD 4 783.7 million, 22.1% higher to the same period of 2022. The exports equaled USD 1 461.5 million (24.7%), while the imports stood at USD 3 322.2 million (21.0% higher). The negative trade balance was USD 1 860.6 million in January-March 2023 and its share in external trade turnover constituted 38.9%.
In January-March 2023 the share of the top ten trading partners by exports in the total exports of Georgia amounted to 80.9%. The top partners were Armenia (USD 216.9 million), Azerbaijan (USD 180.7 million) and Russia (USD 176.9 million).
In January-March 2023 motor cars claimed the first place in the list of top export items, equaling USD 411.8 million with 28.2% of total exports. The exports of copper ores and concentrates totaled USD 205.7 million and their share in the total exports amounted to 14.1%. The exports ferro-alloys occupied the third place standing at USD 81.8 million and constituting 5.6% of the total exports.
The top import commodities in January-March 2023 were motor cars, whose imports equaled USD 474.5 million (14.3% of the total imports). The petroleum and petroleum oils followed in the list with USD 251.2 million (7.6% of imports). The petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons were third in the top import commodity list with USD 225.0 million (6.8% of imports).
