The Ministry of Foreign Affairs urges Georgian citizens in Sudan to be careful

The Georgian Embassy in Turkey is in contact with the Georgian citizens in Sudan and their family members amid the fighting in the country between the army and a paramilitary group.

“We are in contact with Georgians. About 30 Georgians are there now. As all other countries have urged their citizens, we have also asked our citizens to refrain from going out and moving around. We are working intensively with our partners to create a humanitarian corridor, or to create an opportunity to get our citizens out of there on time and return them safely to Georgia. We are in contact with the UN office and we are in close contact with our partners.

We are waiting for the situation to calm down, so that we have an opportunity to talk to both sides. So far they are not talking to us because they are involved in clashes. Georgians are all safe, nothing is wrong with anyone, they are healthy”, - said the Deputy Minister Aleksandre Khvtisiashvili.

The fighting in Sudan erupted between army units loyal to General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the head of Sudan’s transitional governing Sovereign Council, and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, led by General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, who is the deputy head of the council. At least 97 civilians have been killed and 365 injured.
