According to the Ministry of Health, part of the pharmaceutical companies artificially increased prices of the medicines imported from Turkey and equalized them with the cost of imported from Europe medicines of the same title.
“This conjoined increase of prices could be associated with dishonest arrangements or abuse of dominant position, when the sector, striving for maximal profit inflicts loss on citizens.
National Competition Agency is ready to get involved in the inspection process. The Ministry of Health will have strict response on revealed irregularities in the interest of citizens.
It is publicly known, that as a result of opening Turkish pharmaceutical market, medicines from Turkey entered Georgia through parallel import, in facilitated mode, which significantly reduced price of medicines. Hence, medicines imported from Turkey are much cheaper than European medicines. Thus, artificial overstatement of prices of medicines imported from Turkey, is unacceptable for the Ministry of Health, since it contradicts with the goal of ensuring accessibility to medicines for the population, through setting fair prices on medicines, declared by the State”, - says the Ministry.
