In the IV quarter of 2022, the unemployment rate in Georgia decreased by 3.0% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year and equaled 16.1%, reads the report of GeoStat.
In the IV quarter of 2022, compared to the corresponding period of 2021, the number of hired employees increased by 42.9 thousand persons (5.1%) and reached 884.1 thousand, while the number of self-employed increased by 18.0 thousand (4.5%) and equaled to 420.4 thousand. In the same period, the number of unemployed decreased by 42.3 thousand (14.5%) and equaled to 249.5 thousand.
In the IV quarter of 2022, the labour force participation rate (share of the labour force in the total population aged 15 and older) increased by 1.5% compared to the corresponding period of 2021 and became 52.7%, while the employment rate increased by 2.8% and amounted to 44.2%. The labour force participation rate in urban settlements increased by 1.3%, in rural settlements - by 1.7% compared to the previous year, while the employment rate increased in urban settlements by 3.0%, in rural areas - by 2.3% and equaled 45.8 and 42.1%, respectively.
In the fourth quarter of 2022, compared to the corresponding period of 2021, the share of hired employees in the total number of employed increased by 0.1% and equaled 67.8% percent.
In the IV quarter of 2022, the unemployment rate decreased in urban as well as in rural settlements by 3.7 and 1.9%, respectively compared to the corresponding period of 2021.
Traditionally, the unemployment rate is higher for men than for women. In the IV quarter of 2022, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, this indicator decreased for women by 3.1%, while it decreased by 2.8% for men.
The labour force participation rate is higher for men than for women. In the IV quarter of 2022, the indicator for women was 42.7% and for men – 64.0%. The labour force participation rate for women increased by 1.9%, while for men it increased by 0.9%, compared to the corresponding period of 2021.
In the IV quarter of 2022, the employment rate for women as well as for men increased by 2.9 and 2.5%, respectively compared to the same period of 2021.
