The Prime Minister of Georgia highlighted upcoming meeting between Bidzina Ivanishvili, Honorary Chairman of Georgian Dream, and Robin Dunnigan, the US Ambassador to Georgia, which he said would take place “shortly after” the elections and be important for rebooting relations with the US and the EU.
“We are pleased that a meeting between Mr. Ivanishvili and the US Ambassador has already been arranged to take place soon after the elections. This meeting will undoubtedly contribute to strengthening our ties. We are committed to doing everything possible, and we hope to see reciprocal actions. I am confident this meeting will be very productive in rebooting our relations.
Pressure was being exerted on Ivanishvili, as soon as the war in Ukraine started, his bank accounts were frozen, and transfers were blocked in the West.
For entirely objective reasons, Ivanishvili did not want to hold a meeting under these circumstances. This situation lasted for two years, which is why he refrained from meeting with foreign representatives and did not want to engage in any discussions while under pressure.
Now that certain circumstances have changed, he is ready for such a meeting. The US Ambassador has also expressed a similar willingness, which is very positive. This meeting will play a key role in rebooting relations between Georgia and the US”, - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
