It is unfair to blame the Georgian government for not joining the anti-Russian sanctions because too many of our partners and even EU allies have done exactly the same - Slovak MEP

It is unfair to blame the Georgian government for not joining the anti-Russian sanctions because too many of our partners and even EU allies have done exactly the same. Such a statement made Branislav Ondruš, a Slovak Member of the European Parliament.

Besides, as the MEP added, there is no other EU membership candidate state that was acting as “consistently” as Georgia in its European Union pre-accession process.

“For a whole decade, I have been leading EU expert groups cooperating with Georgian experts. Our common goal is to prepare Georgia for EU membership. We are working together on changes in legislation and state institutions, thus Georgia systematically fulfils the conditions of joining the European Union. Moreover, as I am also involved in the pre-accession processes of other countries, I have the opportunity to compare. I declare with full responsibility that there is probably no other candidate state that acts as consistently and actively as Georgia in its pre-accession process”, - said Branislav Ondruš.
