In 2022, the share of the population under the absolute poverty line in Georgia decreased by 1.9%

In 2022, the share of the population under the absolute poverty line (absolute poverty rate) in Georgia decreased by 1.9% compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 15.6%, reads the report of GeoStat.

In 2022, the absolute poverty rate in urban type settlements decreased by 2.7% and amounted to 12.3%, while in rural type settlements it decreased by 0.7% and amounted to 20.6%.

In 2022, the absolute poverty rate decreased compared to the previous year in all age groups of the population. Particularly, the indicator was 20.4% in the age group under 18 years (-2.3%), in the 18-64 age group – 15.3% (-2.0%), and in the age group 65 and older – 10.5% (-1.4%). Absolute poverty rates for women decreased by 1.8% and amounted to 15.3%, while for men it decreased by 2.1% and amounted to 15.8%.

In 2022, the value of the Gini coefficient in terms of total incomes has changed from 0.37 to 0.36 compared to the previous year, while it remains unchanged in terms of total consumption expenditures and stands at 0.34.
