I am confident that Catherine Colonna’s visit to Georgia will give our ties a new push - Ilia Darchiashvili

I am confident that Catherine Colonna’s visit to Georgia will give our ties a new push. Such a statement made Georgian Foreign Minister during a joint press briefing following the meeting with the French Foreign Minister.

“In light of the security challenges on the European continent and in this critical period for Georgia, I believe the visit will provide a significant new impetus. I believe this is also a sign of political support from our friends in France.

I informed the Minister that last year was a highly productive parliamentary year in terms of legislation. The Parliament of Georgia adopted more than 80 new laws in order to implement these recommendations. We are looking at the results of the reforms already carried out, in accordance with the recommendations, and we believe that a very important part has already been completed.

There are still steps to be taken, and we, together with international organizations, be it the Venice Commission or the OSCE/ODIHR, continue to work with them and in order to fully implement the recommendations, we will take concrete steps very soon.

Georgia values France’s robust support for our country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. France’s unwavering support in this direction is very valuable for Georgia.

You know Russia’s military aggression against sovereign Ukraine fundamentally altered the security architecture not only in our region but throughout the world. I believe we should work actively to ensure that the new security architecture maximizes and improves security in all regions. Georgia stands firmly toward implementing the state peace policy with the occupied territories.”

I told the Minister that this is our daily activity, our daily efforts are aimed at ensuring that Georgia fulfills this task in a timely and transparent manner. Also, I shared with the Minister what specific activities the Government has carried out beyond these efforts. I told her that last year was a very strong parliamentary year in the law-making direction”, - said Ilia Darchiashvili.
