Georgia’s membership in the EU and NATO is not only in your interest, it is an opportunity for Europe as well - Zbigniew Rau

We believe that Georgia’s future membership in the European Union and NATO is not only in the interest of Georgia, but also of the transatlantic union/society. This is an opportunity for Europe, not a danger. Such a statement made today Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau after the meeting with his Georgian counterpart Ilia Darchiashvili.

“In order to use this opportunity and Georgia can take a further step towards joining the EU and NATO, the involvement and efforts of all parties participating in the enlargement - both European and transatlantic institutions, as well as the Georgian government and Georgian society - are necessary.

The Vilnius NATO summit is approaching, and by the end of the year, the EU may make a decision on granting Georgia the status of a candidate country for the EU.

Therefore, diplomatic actions by interested parties are being activated, including by our partners from the Weimar Triangle. Recently, the visit of the German Foreign Minister took place in Georgia, and the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of France is also planned in the near future.

My today’s working visit to Tbilisi is an element and expression of intensive diplomatic and political communication. Its purpose is to discuss challenges, problems and chances, as well as opportunities to solve problems, including Poland’s involvement in the process of finding a solution, in the spirit of traditional Georgian-Polish friendship”, - said the Minister.
