The parliamentary majority will support Levan Ioseliani’s candidacy for the Public Defender’s position. Such a statement made Mamuka Mdinaradze, Executive Secretary of the Georgian Dream.

“We discussed the candidacy of Levan Ioseliani on the post of the Public Defender. There was a discussion about this, but we resolved the issue soon.

Only two arguments were presented in a negative context regarding his candidacy. As we said earlier, and several MPs commented that a politically biased person is not and should not be a candidate (and an Ombudsman in future).

Also, several statements made by him in the past were recalled, which may not have been relevant at all, but he had and has his political position.

But, finally we agreed that only these arguments are not enough to reject his candidacy. As a result, tomorrow the parliamentary majority will support the candidacy of Levan Ioseliani with its full composition”, - said Mamuka Mdinaradze.

The election of the Public Defender, who will hold the position for a period of 6 years, needs the support of 90 deputies.
