The Executive Secretary of the Georgian Dream, said Pawel Herczynski, the European Union Ambassador to Georgia, had not granted the legitimacy to the Georgian Government, but “it was granted to us by the Georgian people, the source of legitimacy was the people”.
Mamuka Mdinaradze’s comments followed after Žygimantas Pavilionis, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Seimas of Lithuania, criticized Herczynski for meeting Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili by saying “Shame on you, you do not represent the EU”.
“Herczynski will meet, other ambassadors will meet Botchorishvili, and life will continue as usual. Therefore, they should leave that person alone. Just because he shook hands with the Foreign Minister, this is neither the basis for legitimacy nor a matter of irrelevance.
Legitimacy is granted to us by the Georgian people. Personally, he is an excellent person, but when certain instructions come, he voices them. The basis of legitimacy is not his meeting and handshake, but the choice of the Georgian people”, - said Mamuka Mdinaradze.
