Elections are legitimized by the Georgian people, thanks to the 1,120,000 people who supported peace in the country - Kaladze

Calls for an international investigation into the parliamentary elections are disrespectful to Constitution and institutions. Such a statement made today the Mayor of Tbilisi.

Kakha Kaladze’s comments came after Michael Roth, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Bundestag, who is on a visit to Georgia, called for an “independent investigation” into alleged election irregularities.

“The parliamentary elections had been held at the highest level. The OSCE/ODIHR confirmed this in it’s reports – both preliminary and interim.

Everything is clear that the elections were multi-party, where every person had the opportunity to make a choice. Accordingly, 1,120,000 people chose peace, economic development of the country, progress and dignity”, - said the Mayor.

Regarding the legitimacy of elections, he reiterated that legitimacy is granted by the Georgian people, not by foreign officials.

“As for legitimacy, it is granted by the Georgian people. I understand that for the radicals, the Georgian people hold no significance. They are united under one wing, with one patron, and their actions are guided from the outside. They do not belong to this country, their families, or themselves, as their interests lie elsewhere. However, one thing is clear: legitimacy comes from the Georgian people.

We have directly witnessed interference in our country’s internal political affairs over the past few months. Putting everything else aside, they actively participated in the election campaign through their statements and actions. This is unimaginable, but believe me, very soon everything will fall into place. Everyone will receive a worthy response, and those from outside will show proper respect toward our country and people”, - said Kakha Kaladze.
