Our energy resources have increased by 37% in 12 years, we have an ambitious goal that by 2030 electricity generation in Georgia will exceed consumption - Kobakhidze

By 2012, our electricity production was 3359 megawatts, today the amount of installed power has increased to 4600 megawatts. Such a statement the Prime Minister of Georgia made in his speech at the official opening ceremony of Khobi 2 HPP.

“We have very ambitious plans in terms of economic growth. We have had a very good 4 years in terms of economic growth, when our economy grew by 40 billion GEL, and according to our plan, the economy of Georgia should grow by 40 billion GEL in the next 4 years.

Economic growth should be accompanied by the strengthening of our energy resources, and in this regard such projects are very important. We have also made progress in harnessing our energy resources.

As of 2012, our electricity generation was 3,359 MW, with an installed capacity of 4,600 MW over the past 12 years. That is, our energy resources have increased by 37%. We also have an ambitious plan to exceed 8,000 megawatts of installed capacity in 2028, and to exceed 10,000 megawatts by 2030. We have an ambitious goal, by 2030 we want the production of electricity in Georgia to exceed the consumption of electricity, which means that we will be a completely self-sufficient and independent country in terms of electricity, which means stronger independence of the state. All the foundations have been created for this and the work will continue.

I want to thank the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, personally the Minister, First Vice Prime Minister Levan Davitashvili, as well as the leadership of the Ministry, specifically the people who work in the field of electric energy. The contribution of each of them is very important in the progress that the country achieves from an economic point of view, and specifically, in the field of energy”, - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
