Government has taken a number of steps to raise the prestige of the teaching profession, this year the salary has increased significantly and this will continue - Irakli Kobakhidze

The Prime Minister of Georgia highlighted the country’s Government’s efforts in “raising the prestige of the teacher profession” at a ceremony dedicated to the National Teacher’s Day marking the teacher’s contributions to the field.

“The teacher’s work represents one of the most important activities. It is in the best interests of the development of our country to appreciate teacher’s work, and ensure the profession occupied an even more important place in our public life.

We all come from childhood, we all had school years and we all remember very well how much each teacher leaves an impact on the future of each of us, and you serve a special effort, for which I want to extend my gratitude.

As you are aware, the teachers’ salary has significantly increased this year and it will continue to increase in the future. Active work is also being carried out in promotion of teacher qualification. It is our duty to constantly take care of creating better conditions for you.

I had been continuously engaged in teaching activities for 18 years. I express solidarity towards teachers. Hope, this would be reflected in the Government’s efforts to further improve the education system”, - said Irakli Kobakhidze.

He also extended his gratitude to Education Minister Giorgi Amilakhvari for his efforts on establishing the National Teacher’s Day and a “high prize” to “highlight and appreciate the role of teachers in society” for the 1st time in the recent history of Georgia, noting the state annually marked the date on October 27 on the birthday of Iakob Gogebashvili.

The award and a cash prize was handed to 10 meritorious teachers, for their “special contribution to the development of the society and the education system”.
