Georgian Dream is a future-oriented political party with a positive election agenda - Archil Talakvadze

“Under the government of “Georgian Dream”, Georgia was and remains the reliable partner for the EU and NATO serving for consolidation of democracy, creation of the properly functioning market economy and citizen-oriented governance and effective institutions”, - the Speaker, Archil Talakvadze said in his speech at the Trans-Atlantic Commission meeting “Reservation on the Elections Integrity” established on the election integrity issues of the alliance of the democracies.

“On behalf of “Georgian Dream”, let me assure you that we are committed to ensuring the free, fair and transparent election process, which is evidenced with the Code of Conduct for the Political Parties signed by us, developed by the Central Election Commission in cooperation with the international partners”.

Talakvadze dwelt on the Parliamentary activity noting that the 9th convocation has achieved significant outcomes in many spheres, including the democratic development and Election Code. He touched upon the March 8, 2020 agreement envisaging the gradual transmission to the proportional system and aiming at higher proportional representation in the Parliament.

In his speech, the Chairman of the Parliament introduced the election reforms, which is unprecedented in the history of independent Georgia. He underlined that the Parliamentary Elections 2020 will be held with the highest democratic standards.

“Despite the pandemic challenges, the Government of Georgia assumed the responsibility to ensure the unprecedented open, free and transparent elections according to the highest democratic standards, which in its return, will serve as an index of the democratic progress of the country. In this view, we have engaged the long and short-term observation missions from international organizations. The Government expressed its commitment to ensuring the charter flights for the missions”, - he stated and dwelt on the challenges – against the drastically increased globalization and technological innovations, various internal and external actors aspire to find the vulnerable point and interrupt the democratic processes.

“It is the reality that any democracy may encounter, including Georgia. It is farther aggravated by the occupation of two historical regions – Abkhazia and Tskhinvali by Russia, and the “soft power” model, aiming to create chaos, confrontation, disintegration and desperation. During the last decade, we have witnessed similar tendencies even in Europe and other countries. We need more than attention and have no time for passive thinking – now, it is time to take critical steps as the solid position and actions only can satisfy the increasing appetite of the evil aiming to make the country deviate from the democratic path”.

According to Talakvadze, the timely solution to the increasing challenges requires close cooperation with our partners, including cyber-security, countering propaganda, public awareness, media literacy etc.

“Georgian Dream” is a future-oriented political party with a positive electoral agenda. Our priority is to hold the political debates conditioned with our pre-election program. Tomorrow, we intend to introduce to our citizens the electoral program of “Georgian Dream” with ambitious plans and initiatives in the economy, job opportunities, business support, education, environmental protection, security etc.”, - concluded the Speaker of the Parliament.
