Public Safety Management Center 112 of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, is holding training on electronic surveillance system for monitoring domestic violence and violence against women. Within the frames of the ongoing training course, 12 employees of the Public Safety Management Center will be trained by international experts for four days.

At the training, practices of different countries, principle of operation of electronic surveillance equipment, technical characteristics, rules of their installation and operation, as well as software operation, zone planning and control will be discussed.

The project is implemented with the active participation and support of the European Union and the UN WOMEN. It is notable that UN WOMEN purchased and handed over 100 electronic bracelets and related infrastructure to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

From September 1, 2020, under the legislation of Georgia, the electronic surveillance program of the abuser will be enacted, which is technically supported by the Public Security Management Center "112".

Legislative changes drafted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs were approved by the Parliament in July of the recent year. The mentioned changes were elaborated in active cooperation with UN WOMEN. As a result of the adopted legislative changes, additional mechanisms are established to increase the effectiveness of the protection of victims of violence and domestic violence. According to the law, in parallel with issuing restraining order, it will be possible to impose electronic surveillance on the abuser in case if there is a real threat of recurrence of such behavior. An electronic bracelet will be attached to the body of the abuser. As a result, the abuser will be monitored in real-time regime to prevent him/her from approaching the victim"s place of residence, office or other area.

Evading the electronic surveillance from the side of the abuser will be subject to criminal responsibility.
