Israel: Police arrest demonstrators amid clashes after thousands gather in Jerusalem

Local police have reportedly arrested at least six anti-government demonstrators in Jerusalem on Tuesday, July 21, with unconfirmed sources stating as many as 34 protesters have been detained after thousands gathered to demonstrate.

Clashes have also been reported between security forces and protesters. Unconfirmed social media sources suggest that police fired smoke grenades at activists as they threw bottles and other projectiles towards them. Security forces closed off several roads in the vicinity.

Earlier on Tuesday, anti-government protests congregated outside Prime Minister Netanyahu’s residence and then marched to the Knesset building, rallying against the government’s handling of the economic crisis caused by the coronavirus calling for Netanyahu"s resignation.
