Archil Talakvadze and new Head of the EU Monitoring Mission discussed situation in occupied territories of Georgia

The Speaker of the Parliament Archil Talakvadze held the introductory meeting with the new Head of the EUMM Marek Szczygieł.


The Parties dwelt on the activities and importance of the EUMM and focused on COVID-19 and the grave humanitarian situation in the occupied territories of Georgia and the illegal and provocative steps taken by the Russia.


The Speaker confirmed the Government’s commitment to assist the population of the occupied regions of Abkhazia and Samachablo in the fight against the coronavirus.


The parties also focused on wounding and illegal detention of a Georgian citizen by the occupation forces on July 11, 2020.


According to them, the full implementation of the August 12, 2008 Agreement by the Russian Federation would be the cornerstone of a peaceful settlement of the conflict.


In addition to the importance of the activities of the IPRM group, the meeting also focused on the disinformation campaign against Lugar Laboratory. As was noted, the EU Mission itself became a target of Russian propaganda.


Archil Talakvadze reiterated Georgia’s vow to the policy of peaceful resolution of the conflict.
