Constitutional amendments to be discussed and voted on in the third reading today

Constitutional amendments will be discussed and voted on in the third reading during the extraordinary sitting of the Parliament today. The sitting will begin at 12:00.


According to the existing information, the National Movement and European Georgia opposition factions will not participate in the discussion of the changes.


The legislative already approved the draft constitutional amendments in the first and second readings. 115 MPs supported and 3 voted against the draft constitutional law on the amendments to the electoral system in the second reading. As for the first reading, 136 MPs supported the bill, 5 voted against.


According to the draft amendments, the 2020 parliamentary elections will be held under a mixed electoral system (120 proportional, 30 majoritarian) and with 1% threshold.
