The Government will announce its decision on international tourism in the nearest future

Georgia is following international trends in travel and will soon decide what to do in terms of international tourism, taking into account the need to maintain a low infection rate in the country. Opening of international tourism was one of the main issues of today’s Inter-agency Coordination Council meeting.

As it was mentioned during the meeting, the standards set for tourists and their transportation will be the same as the requirements of Georgian citizens for long-distance transportation.

Meeting, members of the Government also talked about the importance of a cautious and gradual approach to opening up tourism and said that the safety of citizens is the top priority for the Government.

It should be mentioned that Georgia was negotiating with partner countries like Israel and various European countries to restart flights but this has been since postponed due to deteriorating epidemiological situations there.

The Council’s meeting also paid attention to the process of enhanced PCR testing and, in particular, testing among the groups defined in the Government’s decree. The capacities of relevant clinics were also discussed. As of today, there are 908 confirmed cases in Georgia, of which 761 have already recovered, three Georgian citizens have been transported from abroad for treatment in Georgia, and 14 patients have passed away.
