Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement on the fact of possible liquidation of journalist Giorgi Gabunia. According to them, the State Security Service (SSS) saved the country from a serious crime that was presumably directed against not only one individual, but also aspired to cause grave results for Georgia.

“The SSS has shown a high quality of professionalism and saved the country from a serious crime that was presumably directed against not only one individual but also aspired to cause grave results for our country.

The assassination attempt of our citizen, a journalist is unacceptable for us. The state protects the life of every individual and the rule of law. We await the results of the investigation. It is necessary to find out in whose interest it was to carry out this crime and internationally discredit the country.

Protection of our citizens, including the journalists, is a fundamental part of human rights, and our state, as a democratic country, will definitely guarantee this”, - reads the statement.
