The Prosecutor General of Georgia Irakli Shotadze met with the Ambassador of the U.S. Georgia Kelly Degnan. At the introductory meeting, the Prosecutor General thanked the Ambassador of the United States of America for the assistance provided by the Embassy of the United States of America, especially for the contribution to the fight against cybercrime and for the development of the jury trial. At the meeting, Irakli Shotadze also informed Kelly Degnan about the future plans and priorities of the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia.

“The meeting with the Ambassador of the United States of America, Kelly Deganan, was of an introductory nature. The conversation focused on the steps to be taken to strengthen cooperation between the Prosecutor"s Office of Georgia and the US Embassy. A number of measures were also planned regarding the reforms to be implemented in the development of the prosecutor"s office system”, - Irakli Shotadze stated after the meeting.

In his turn, the Ambassador of the United States of America thanked the Prosecutor"s Office of Georgia for its close cooperation, involvement and assistance in the investigation of international crimes, as well as assistance in extradition matters.

“I had an excellent meeting with the Prosecutor General. We had the opportunity to discuss various areas of cooperation, including extraditions, other legal issues of interest to Georgia and the United States. We also talked about the important role of the Prosecutor General in the upcoming elections, including in connection with the consideration of complaints about voter bribery and voter intimidation, and I think the General Prosecutor"s Office is ready to take the most important responsibility in the fall so that the voters have full confidence in the election process”, - said the Ambassador.

The parties also discussed important areas of future cooperation, which will further strengthen and make effective the involvement of the United States in the process of reforming the prosecution.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Prosecutors General of Georgia - Bakur Abuladze, Giorgi Gabitashvili, Natia Merebashvili, Giorgi Badashvili, the US Embassy Legal Adviser Michael Grant and the Head of the Embassy"s Political and Economic Department Liz Zentos.
