The President of Georgia and Pope Francis spoke by phone

The President of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili and Pope Francis spoke by telephone.


The conversation focused on the importance of international solidarity during the coronavirus crisis. The President of Georgia conveyed a warm greeting to the Pope from the Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgia and noted that the importance of international solidarity was the topic of discussion at the meeting with the Catholicos-Patriarch.


Zourabichvili and Pope also talked about the global ecologic situation and environmental issues. As the President said, it is very important for Georgia to protect the environment and take care of the ecosystems in the country. The Pope stressed that he fully supports Georgia in solving the environmental issues.


Parties discussed the current situation in Georgia’s occupied territories and humanitarian crisis facing the local population.


Pope Francis will pray for saving the earth from the pandemic today, May 14. The Pope pledged that he would pray for Georgia - for the spiritually rich country, which is the precious nation to him.
