Negotiations underway to sign plea bargain with individuals accused of child trafficking – the Prosecutor’s Office

Negotiations are underway for 10 people detained for child trafficking and child pornography in September 2019 to sign a plea bargain. The Chief Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia reports that the detainees regret and admit to their crime, and that they want to sign a plea bargain.

A criminal group involving American, Australian citizens and parents of the affected kids were detained on charges of child trafficking and making child pornography in September 2019.

The citizens of USA and Australia produced child pornography with underaged girls, whose parents in turns received 800 – 3 000 GEL in exchange from the detainees. With the help of their Georgian associates, they produced pornographic materials to sell abroad.

If the plea bargain is signed with the American citizen, (he/she) will face a prison sentence of 10 years, a fine and confiscation of property. As for the other detainees, they will face a prison sentence of 5 to 7 years, as well as an additional 5 years of probation, fines and confiscation of property obtained by crime.
