18 airline companies are ready to resume flights – Natia Turnava

Georgia is getting ready to welcome international travellers from July 1 into a safe environment during the COVID-19 pandemic by creating so-called safe corridors.

During the meeting with the heads of regulatory services of the transport sector the Minister of Economy Natia Turnava discussed how to prepare each transport sector in order to be able to transport both Georgian citizens and foreign guests comfortably and as safely as possible.

“Out of the 36 airlines operating in Georgian market, 18 have already reached a preliminary agreement with the Ministry of Economy to resume flights.

Of course, this should be preceded by agreements between our states through our diplomatic channels on the principles of creating a safe corridor, but, most importantly, airlines are already ready to resume flights. This means that we will be ready to open the tourist season… Meeting all medical guidelines is an important precondition for opening the tourist season in Georgia.

Our goal is to make Georgia the first country to open its doors to foreign tourists after months of lockdown due to the coronavirus and to welcome international travelers with a new image – “Georgia - Safe Destination!”, - said Turnava.

Georgia will receive international tourists starting July 1.
