A member of France’s National Assembly has been hospitalized in intensive care after contracting coronavirus, the lower house of parliament said in a statement, as the French president warned the public to prepare for an “inevitable” epidemic.

A snack bar worker had also contracted the virus and had been confined to home while another worker in the lawmakers’ dining hall who was suspected of having caught the virus had been hospitalized.

It did not name the legislator who had contracted the virus, but added that all lawmakers and personnel had been informed about the situation.
The country recorded 138 new virus cases on Thursday in the biggest daily jump thus far, bringing the total number nationwide to 423.
