How Georgia fights against coronavirus and how to cope with the challenges in this regard? At this moment, representatives of the World Health Organization and ambassadors of different countries receive personal information from the Ministry of Health. The meeting is being held with the support of the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office.

According to the Head of the WHO Georgia Office Silviu Domente, at this stage, the World Health Organization does not recommend the suspension of trade and travel amid.

“As for the banning of flights and imposing any restrictions, at this stage, the World Health Organization does not recommend restrictions on trade and travel, though this does not prevent countries from taking additional measures. Countries have an obligation to inform WHO of the measures taken and to justify them. WHO expects that if Georgia takes any measures, it will provide the World Health Organization with substantiated information about it.

We recommend the authorities of different countries to prepare for three possible scenarios.

The first scenario is when the country has imported cases, as it is now in Georgia. The second phase is local transmission. Third is widespread transmission.

Every country has to prepare for these three scenarios. In general, response measures and readiness should be complex, we should consider various aspects, ranging from state coordination and communication to hospital readiness, healthcare readiness, and then increase of the capacity of laboratories”, - concluded Silviu Domente.
