My imprisonment is my conscious choice and part of the overall struggle – Gigi Ugulava

I want to address my teammates and the opposition as a whole. My imprisonment is my conscious choice and part of the overall struggle. Such a statement made the former Tbilisi Myor. Gigi Ugulava wrote about this on his Facebook page.

“To paraphrase Merab Kostava’s words - the main thing is where the national movement is and not where we are in the national movement.

Yes, today our fight is called people against Ivanishvili and people will definitely win this fight. I"m not going to play the “cat and mouse” game with Bidzina Ivanishvili. It doesn’t really matter when he will want to arrest or release me for the fourth time.

He has taken me and other political prisoners hostages with the hope of prolonging his power by trading with electoral system. He will not achieve this goal. At the same time, I do not want my release to become a barrier in the process of achieving the most proportional system that the country needs for its peaceful development like air.

I want to address my teammates and the opposition as a whole. My imprisonment is my conscious choice and part of the overall struggle.

Getting the most proportional system possible will be a peaceful solution to this struggle. Holding proportional elections in 2020 will make it easier for the country to defeat Ivanishvili’s regime. At the same time, today’s opposition unity is the main precondition for accomplishing this task. It is unity, and not any system, which is most frightening to Ivanishvili.

Friends, do not worry about me, maintain unity and do your best to achieve the most proportional system possible. I fully support you in achieving this goal”, - says the former Tbilisi Mayor.
