Bushfires have spread to Victoria, Australia causing the first Code Red since 2010 to be issued for the state. Here is the latest on Australia’s bushfires.
Across Australia, bushfires have been wreaking havoc as dry and hot weather creates tinderbox conditions for fires to spread. Now a Code Red warning has been declared in Victoria, for the Mallee and Northern Country regions.
This is the first time a Code Red warning has been declared in Victoria since January 2010.
Code Red is issued for a threat worse than “extreme” and is the highest possible rating on the state’s fire danger scale.
It is the equivalent to the “catastrophic” fire rating in other states. Country Fire Authority chief officer warned people in the named district to prepare for the worst.
